Holidays Car Tech the CNET Way - November 17th, 2007

The busy editors over at CNET have their 2007 holiday gift guide for cars and car tech in place with their top picks ready for the reading here. This year it seems to be all about after-market, in-dash, techno goodness with their highest score reserved for the JVC KD-NX5000, a unit combining a navigation system complete with traffic data and a host of audio/video power. The unit has a 40gb hard-drive with data displayed on a 3.5″ color LCD for approximately $1000 (although some vendors, especially one named after a large South American river, come in considerably under that.)

A couple of words of advice regarding holiday gift giving of the in-dash variety. Make sure it’s going to fit. Most manufacturers of in-dash units have extensive lists of vehicles that easily accommodate their systems and recommendations for any adaptive devices or mounting brackets that might be required. There’s nothing more frustrating than receiving a honey of a unit like this one only to find out your ride can’t handle it. So, gift buyers, when it comes to auto tech under the tree, research is everything.
