FedEx - White Goes Green - October 24th, 2007

When I hit the shipping place I’m always torn about which service to use. Brown by habit, white because sometimes it’s more economical, and yellow can be lightning fast in places where they deliver. But now white — FedEx — is doing something with their European fleet that gets a whole-hearted green thumbs up from me.

The company will be introducing ten hybrids (diesel-electric) delivery vans in Europe with plans to start using another 100 worldwide. Right now the company is using 95 hybrids in North America and Japan, so this latest announcement is a good indication that they aren’t just talking green to get street cred but are serious about the effort.

The van FedEx will be using in Europe, the Daily, can run on diesel or electric power, but AutoBlogGreen says it can also be plugged in. The vehicle will be unveiled at the European Road Transport Show in Amsterdam so it’s going to be interesting to get the working details on this one because to be a delivery van, it has to have pretty good range.
