VW Promises a Full Hybrid Line

Volkswagen likes to hit the ground running. They’ve had a good record with fuel efficiency, mainly because they offer a lot of diesel vehicles, but now, instead of introducing their first hybrid, they’re going for broke.

Every single new VW will now have a hybrid version with the first models set to become available next year. That’s right. Volkwagen is going to hybridize their entire line. Some models will offer only “partial hybrid” tech, but this is still a huge step for the company and the entire hybrid genre.

Every time an automotive manufacturer does something like this, the bar is raised and other carmakers are even more compelled to step up and offer what increasing environmentalism demands — better choices in personal transportation.

For me personally, the most exciting part of this news is that VW says it will, in time, be offering their smaller cars in a fully electric format. My friends don’t understand what would seem to be a contradiction in my nature. I’ve waged a three-year ongoing war with the electric company. I am all about killing the kilowatt. But in order to achieve a completely clean automobile, electric is the way to go. And I’m enough of an idealist to believe the day will come when those cars can be run from solar energy.

My Dad would roll over in his grave if he thought I’d ever buy a VW. He was a World War II vet and he couldn’t get past the connection of the brand to Hitler. But the company is definitely on my radar now because to my increasingly “green” eyes, they are completely headed in the right direction. Thumbs up!
