Really Expensive Auto Tech — In a Watch

I don’t understand the lifestyles of the rich and famous. My housemate and I were watching a show about luxury jets the other night and I almost spewed my coffee when the announcer said it was $16,000 a person to hitch a ride on the charter.

My reaction was pretty similar when I ran across this little techno tidbit. Let’s just say, for the heck of it, that you shell out $320,000 to buy an Aston Martin DBS. (You know, because you just have to fulfill that James Bond fantasy and play “Casino Royale” every day.)

Now, you can drop an extra $35,000 on a Jaeger LeCoultre wristwatch and use it to unlock your Aston Martin and possibly to even control the alarm system. And what do you get for your money? According to Motorauthority.com “one of the most complex timepieces in the world.” Two hundred parts in the casing and another 200 in the movement. (I don’t even like to think how fast I could futz up a watch with 400 pieces.)

Jaeger says it will let you toss the car keys and they say something even more expensive is in the works. Oy! How’s this for the all time most expensive, useless auto gadget you’ve ever seen?

  • Unbelievable what is thought of in this day and age in technology. My mind can’t hardly even fathom the thought of spending that kind of money on a gadget that’s useless. As far as cars go, I just want a dependable car to get me to work, the store and whatever direction I point it.

  • Colleen, I couldn’t agree with you more. I’ve tried to imagine if I’d dump cash on this kind of thing if I had that kind of cash and I just can’t see myself going there!
