Zero Emissions for USPS Vehicles - March 27th, 2007
They deliver through rain, sleet, snow and dark of night, but they try to do it while minimizing harm to the environment. Who are they? The U.S. Postal Service, of course.
The USPS participated in a White House event today, in an attempt to boost the development and availability of alternative fuels. As part of the event, there were demonstrations of the technology powering a hydrogen fuel-cell minivan, and a two-ton electric truck. Both vehicles produce zero emissions while transporting mail.
The Postal Service’s dedication to the use of cleaner and more energy efficient mail delivery is not new. Already, the independent Federal agency has acquired the country’s largest fleet of alternatively powered cars and trucks. The fleet includes about 38,000 vehicles fuels by electricity, compressed natural gas, ethanol, biodiesel, liquid propane, and hyrdrogen fuel cells.
The United States Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the US.
