My Car Has Nanites? - March 21st, 2007

Nanites? My car has nanites? Nano Chemical Systems, a U.S. based firm, says, “Make it so.” The company has developed an automotive protectant based on nanotechnology they’re calling Ti02. (And they’re working on a similar product for automotive upholstery.)

Ti02 contains nanoscale titanium dioxide, an ingredient used in sunscreens, that will absorb rather that reflect ultraviolet sun rays. According to Nano chemicals president Mathew Zuckerman, “TiO2 acts as an absorber of ultraviolet energy and is virtually transparent to visible light. Only small quantities of these nano-enhanced particles are required to achieve effective UV protection because these small particles have a much greater surface area than larger particles with the same chemical composition used by our competitors.”

Ti02 will be marketed through Marketiquette Inc. and will be available at retail locations such as AutoZone, Pep Boys, Costco, and Wal-Mart. And get this, when you apply Ti02, there’s a slight blue haze that lets you know the nano-enhancement is there and working.  Oh come on, you know you love it. Who wouldn’t like to say they protect their ride from sun damage with nanotechnology? We won’t tell anyone you’ve got a toy replica phaser under the driver’s seat.
