Facelift for Subaru B9 Tribeca - March 15th, 2007

When the 2007 New York Auto Show opens next month, one must-see is the redesigned Subaru B9 Tribeca. In an effort to boost low sales the crossover is getting a facelift.

Changing the look of an existing model happens all the time, but with the 2008 B9 Tribeca, customers can expect to see something a bit more drastic than softened curves, or windows tinted a different shade of photo grey. They can expect a vehicle that looks more like the rest of the cars in the Subaru family, and less horrifically ugly.

According to an article in Automobile Magazine, the design change was sparked by sagging sales figures. Subaru expected to sell 36,000 B9’s last year, and instead only sold half that number.

In addition to cosmetic changes, which will include changing the grille to one with horizontal bars and the Subaru logo, and putting in more rectangular headlights, the 2008 B9 Tribeca will included an upgraded 3.6 liter motor with 254 horsepower, which, while not much improved over the current model (3 liters, 245 hp) it will offer improved fuel economy and run on regular gasoline, instead of the pricier premium.

All in all, the new design sounds much more consumer friendly, while still maintaining Subaru’s sense of style.
